Afife, Portugal, is a consistent surf spot with favorable conditions primarily in the winter months, particularly from November to February. During this period, ground swell dominates (77–92%), providing powerful and well-organized waves with mean swell sizes ranging from 2.2m to 2.6m. However, wind conditions are less ideal, with only 34–36% of days offering good offshore or cross-offshore winds—most days feature onshore or unfavorable winds (64–68%). March and October are transitional months, still offering decent ground swell (65–86%) but slightly smaller wave sizes (1.9m–2.2m) and similarly mixed wind conditions. From April to September, surf quality declines as wind swell becomes more prevalent, peaking in June–August (69–79% wind swell). Swell size drops below 1.5m in summer, and wind conditions worsen, with only 18–28% of days having favorable winds. While summer can still provide rideable waves, they are smaller and less consistent, making Afife best suited for intermediate to advanced surfers in winter when the swell is strongest, despite the challenging winds. Spring and fall offer intermediate conditions, but the prime window remains late autumn to early spring for the biggest and cleanest waves.
