Blacks Beach is a renowned surf spot with consistent conditions year-round, but the best months for surfers typically align with the winter and early spring periods. From January to March, ground swell dominates (72-80%), providing powerful, clean waves with an average swell size of around 1.0 meters. While wind conditions are less favorable during these months (good wind percentages range from 25-38%), the prevalence of ground swell ensures quality surf when offshore winds do occur. December also offers solid conditions, with 70% ground swell and slightly better wind odds (35% good winds). April through November sees a decline in ground swell influence, with more wind swell and smaller waves (0.7-0.9 meters), alongside increasingly poor wind conditions (only 16-27% good winds). Summer months (June-August) are particularly challenging, with higher wind swell percentages, weaker swell sizes, and the least favorable winds (16-18% good conditions). For optimal surfing at Blacks Beach, focus on the winter months when ground swells are strongest, particularly January and February, despite wind variability. Early mornings or specific wind windows may still provide excellent sessions. Late fall and early winter (November-December) can also be worthwhile as ground swells return, but consistency drops compared to peak winter. Avoid summer if seeking powerful, clean waves, though smaller, less consistent days may still be surfable.
