L'Ideale in Italy offers a mix of ground and wind swells, with the best conditions typically found from late autumn through early spring. The most consistent swell action occurs from November to February, when ground swell percentages rise (18-23%) and combine with wind swells (39-49%) to create rideable waves. December stands out with the highest mean swell size (1.4m) and the lowest no-swell days (31%), though wind conditions remain challenging (only 11% good winds). Winter months generally provide larger swells (1.2-1.4m) but suffer from poor wind consistency (87-89% bad winds). Spring (March-April) sees decent wind swell persistence (43-51%) and slightly improved wind chances (13-15% good winds), albeit with smaller swells (1.0-1.2m). Summer (June-August) is the least favorable period, dominated by no-swell days (52-54%) and tiny wave heights (0.7m), compounded by terrible wind conditions (93% bad winds in August). Late autumn (October-November) marks the transition back to better surf, with ground swells increasing (14-18%) and swell size climbing back to 1.0-1.3m. For committed surfers, the winter window delivers the most powerful waves, but requires patience with frequent onshore winds. Shoulder months like March and October offer a compromise with marginally cleaner winds and acceptable swell frequency.
