Playa María Chiquita in Panama is predominantly windswell-driven, with ground swell being nearly negligible year-round. The best months for surfing are from December to March when the swell frequency is highest, with December and January offering the largest average swell sizes (1.1m–1.2m). However, wind conditions during this period are generally unfavorable, with over 90% of days experiencing onshore or bad winds. March sees a slight improvement in wind conditions (11% good wind days) but still remains predominantly choppy. From April to November, swell consistency drops significantly, especially in September and October when no swell occurs over 50% of the time. The summer months (June–August) offer slightly better wind conditions (around 24–28% good wind days), but swell size remains small (0.7m–0.9m), making it subpar for advanced surfers. Overall, the spot struggles with consistent cross-onshore winds throughout the year, and the best compromise between swell size and wind occurs in early months like January and February, despite the high wind disruption. For surfers prioritizing rideable waves, targeting December–March provides the most frequent swell, though expect challenging wind conditions. Late-year months (November–December) show a rebound in swell activity after the mid-year lull, but wind quality remains poor.
