Playa Pelada in Costa Rica offers consistent swell year-round, with ground swell dominating nearly every month (92-100%). The mean swell size ranges from 1.0m in the drier months (December-February) to 1.5m in the wetter season (June-September). The best months for surfers balance solid swell size with favorable wind conditions. December and January stand out with manageable 1.0m swells and the highest percentage of good winds (54-57%). November also provides decent conditions with 1.2m swells and a 51% chance of clean offshore winds. From March onward, swell energy increases (peaking at 1.5m in June-August), but wind conditions deteriorate significantly, with May-October seeing only 27-39% good wind days. September is particularly challenging with 73% unfavorable winds despite consistent swell. Advanced surfers may still find opportunities in the larger summer swells if timing offshore wind windows, but for the most reliable, well-balanced conditions, the December-February window is optimal—moderate swell, cleaner winds, and fewer onshore disruptions. October and November serve as transition months, offering slightly larger waves than peak season but with increasingly inconsistent winds.
