Ponta do Paul in Portugal is a consistent surf spot with reliable ground swell dominance for most of the year, particularly from October through March. The best months for surfing are typically December to February, when ground swell percentages are highest (83–88%) and mean swell sizes range between 1.7–1.9m, offering powerful and clean waves. However, wind conditions during these months are less favorable, with only around 30–34% of days having good offshore winds, meaning surfers may need to be selective with timing. Spring (April–June) and early autumn (September–October) provide a balance, with decent ground swell presence (56–70%) and slightly better wind conditions (33–44% good winds), though swell size decreases to 1.4–1.5m. The summer months (July–August) see the weakest swell (0.9–1.0m) and more wind swell influence, but they also offer the best wind conditions (39–45% good winds), making them suitable for less experienced surfers or those prioritizing lighter winds. Overall, advanced surfers will prefer the winter months for larger, high-quality waves, while intermediate riders may find better opportunities in late spring or early autumn when winds and swell strike a reasonable compromise. Summer is generally the least consistent for quality waves but can still provide smaller, manageable conditions when winds align.
