Praia Azul in Portugal offers surfers a seasonal variation in conditions, with the best months typically falling during the winter and early autumn. From January to March, the spot benefits from consistent ground swells (80-89% occurrence) with mean swell sizes around 1.4-1.7m, making it ideal for powerful, clean waves. However, wind conditions are less favorable, with bad winds prevailing 57-65% of the time, particularly strong in February and March. December also provides excellent swell consistency (83% ground swell) and decent wind conditions (43% good winds), making it a reliable month for surfers. October and November mark a transition period, with increasing ground swells (62-74%) and improving wind conditions (37-38% good winds), offering a good mix of swell energy and cleaner surf. The summer months (June-August) see a decline in swell quality, with wind swells dominating (55-61%) and smaller waves (0.8-0.9m), compounded by unfavorable winds (81-84% bad winds). September begins the seasonal shift back toward better ground swells (44%) but still struggles with wind quality. For the best balance of size, consistency, and wind conditions, November and December are prime, followed by January and February if surfers can handle the wind trade-offs. May through August are generally less reliable for quality waves.
