Praia do Norte, known for its massive swells and powerful waves, offers the best conditions from late autumn through early spring, particularly from October to March. During these months, ground swell dominates (66% to 92%), ensuring consistent, high-quality waves with mean sizes ranging from 1.9m to 2.5m. The winter months (November to February) are prime, with December and January showing the highest ground swell percentages (88% and 92%) and larger average swell sizes (2.4m to 2.5m). Wind conditions are less favorable overall, but the best odds for good winds (35% to 39%) occur from September to January, with October standing out as having the highest likelihood of favorable winds (39%). Spring (April to June) and summer (July to September) see a decline in ground swell, replaced by wind swell, with smaller waves (1.4m to 1.9m) and fewer ideal wind days (below 35%). Summer months, especially July, are the least favorable, with ground swell dropping to just 15% and poor wind conditions 76% of the time. For advanced surfers seeking powerful, clean waves, the window from October to March is optimal, with winter offering the biggest and most consistent surf, despite the higher chance of onshore winds. Intermediate surfers may find late spring (April-May) or early autumn (September) more manageable, though with reduced size and quality.
