Praia dos Ingleses in Portugal offers the best surfing conditions during the winter months, particularly from December to February, when ground swell dominates with percentages between 83% and 89%, providing consistent and powerful waves. The mean swell size during this period ranges from 1.6 to 1.7 meters, making it ideal for intermediate and advanced surfers. Wind conditions are less favorable, with good winds occurring only 41-43% of the time, but the strong, clean swells compensate for this. Spring (March to May) sees a gradual decline in ground swell (40-80%) and an increase in wind swell, with swell sizes dropping to 1.0-1.5 meters. Wind conditions worsen, with bad winds peaking at 73% in May, making sessions more inconsistent. Summer (June to August) is the least favorable, with ground swell dropping below 26%, while wind swell rises to 54-61%. Swell size diminishes to 0.8-0.9 meters, and wind conditions remain poor (71-73% bad winds), leading to choppy, smaller waves. Autumn (September to November) marks a return of better conditions, with ground swell increasing from 44% in September to 74% in November. Swell size grows to 1.3-1.5 meters, and wind conditions improve slightly (36-39% good winds). October and November become viable again for surfers, though not as reliable as winter. For the best balance of swell power and manageable wind conditions, December and January are the prime months, while November and February are solid alternatives. Summer should be avoided by those seeking quality waves.
