Wasaga Beach, located on the freshwater shores of Lake Huron, offers surfable waves primarily driven by strong winds and occasional ground swells. The best months for surfers are during the colder seasons, particularly December, January, and February, when ground swell percentages peak at 75% to 76%, and mean swell sizes reach 1.6m to 1.7m. These months also see slightly better wind conditions, with 34% to 35% of days favorable, though still dominated by cross-shore or onshore winds that can be challenging. Early winter and late fall (November and October) also provide decent conditions, with ground swells around 60% to 65% and swell sizes averaging 1.3m to 1.6m, though wind quality remains similar to mid-winter. Spring and summer (May through August) are the least favorable due to a sharp decline in ground swells (below 53%) and smaller wave heights (0.8m to 1.0m), compounded by poor wind conditions (75% to 83% unfavorable). September shows a slight improvement in swell size (0.9m) and wind conditions (28% good) compared to summer, but the waves remain inconsistent. For surfers prioritizing size and consistency, targeting the winter months is optimal, despite the colder temperatures and still-marginal winds. Meanwhile, summer surfers will face mostly weak wind swells and frequent flat spells.
