Herradurra seasonal overview
Herradura, Peru, offers consistent surf year-round, thanks to its exposure to ground swells, which dominate the break with over 90% occurrence in every month. The best time to surf here is from March to September, when swell size peaks, averaging 1.6m to 2.0m. March through May provides an excellent balance of solid swell (1.6m–1.9m) and relatively good wind conditions (59–78% favorable), though winds gradually become less reliable as winter approaches. The peak swell period from June to September delivers the biggest waves (2.0m), but wind conditions worsen, with only about 48–53% of days having favorable offshores. From October to February, the swell remains strong (1.4m–1.8m) and wind conditions improve significantly (68–81% favorable), making this period more reliable for clean, ridable waves despite slightly smaller sizes. For the best combination of size, consistency, and offshore winds, target March to May and November to December, avoiding the mid-year wind dip. Herradura is rarely flat, so surfers can expect quality waves any month, with ground swells ensuring powerful, well-formed breaks.
