Honky's seasonal overview
Honky's in the Maldives is primarily a windswell-dominated spot, with ground swell playing a secondary role. The best months for surfing are February through April, when wind conditions are most favorable and wave consistency is relatively high. During February, the percentage of good wind conditions peaks at 46%, along with a decent mix of ground swell (27%) and wind swell (71%), making it one of the top months. March follows closely with even better wind conditions (59%) and a higher ground swell component (35%), though the mean swell size remains modest at 0.9m. April maintains similar conditions with 44% ground swell and 54% good winds, though wave height stays small. From May onward, wind conditions deteriorate significantly, with bad winds dominating 70% or more of the time until October. July offers the largest mean swell size (1.6m), but the high percentage of bad winds (70%) makes it less ideal. Late-year months like November show slight improvements in wind conditions (44%), but wave quality remains inconsistent. Overall, the early-season window (Feb-Apr) provides the most balanced combination of rideable waves and favorable winds, while the rest of the year is either too wind-affected or lacks sufficient swell. Surfers should prioritize this period for the most reliable sessions at Honky's.
