Mikado seasonal overview

Mikado in the Maldives offers surfable waves year-round, but the best conditions typically occur between March and August when a higher percentage of ground swells combines with more favorable wind conditions. March and April stand out as prime months, with ground swells at 51% and 59% respectively and good wind conditions over 50%. During these months, the swell consistency improves, and the wind is less likely to be onshore, making for cleaner, more rideable waves. The swell size remains moderate, averaging around 0.8m to 0.9m, which suits intermediate to advanced surfers. From May onward, the swell size increases slightly, peaking in July at 1.4m, but wind conditions become more variable, with good wind days dropping below 50% by June. This period still provides solid surf, though less predictable. The winter months from November to February see a dominance of wind swells (over 70%) and higher chances of poor wind conditions (over 60%), leading to choppier surf. While waves are still present, the quality is inconsistent. Overall, the peak surf season at Mikado runs from March to August, with the most reliable conditions in March and April when ground swells are highest and winds are most favorable.
