Playa de La Concha seasonal overview
Playa de La Concha is a relatively sheltered beach break, and its surf conditions are heavily influenced by ground swells and wind. The best months for surfing here are typically from October through February, when ground swells dominate (65-85% occurrence), swell size averages 1.2-1.6m, and good wind conditions (offshore or light cross-shore) are present around 30-35% of the time. Winter months like December and January offer the most consistent surf, with the highest percentage of ground swells and decent wave heights, though wind conditions can still be challenging (only about 32% favorable). From March onward, the swell consistency drops, with ground swells decreasing sharply by April-May, replaced by more wind swells, which are less ideal. Summer months (June-August) have the smallest and least favorable conditions, with mostly wind swells and poor wind quality (only 17-21% good days). September marks the beginning of the transition back to better surf, with ground swells increasing again. Overall, late autumn and winter provide the most reliable waves, while mid-spring to summer is generally weak and inconsistent. Advanced surfers may find occasional winter swells worthwhile, but the spot is often better suited for beginners or longboarders during smaller days.
