The seafloor is all sand, with shifting peaks that keep the lineup fresh. During summer NE swells, the north end can offer lefts that wrap around the point. The middle of the beach fires off peaks in almost any swell direction, while the southern end occasionally serves up a right-hander worth the paddle. Best Surf Season (May - August)

Winter is when Maroubra starts to fire. The average wave height holds around 1.6-1.8m (5-6ft), but the periods lengthen to 9.5-9.7s and southern hemisphere low-pressure systems line up across the Tasman Sea. With the coastline facing east, the most consistent swell windows come from the S/SE and SSE quadrants, while the wind statistic turns sharply in your favour: WSW, W, WNW and NW breezes blow offshore 37-41 percent of the time. The result is clean, lined-up sandbar walls peeling across the beach.
