This spot thrives on south and southwest swells, with ideal conditions building from around 3 feet and getting genuinely exciting as the energy ramps up. Best Surf Season (May - September)

The Southern Ocean storm track is in full swing during these months, and Winkipop sees its longest-period, most consistent southwest groundswells of the year. Average periods run between 12.6 and 13.0 seconds, while the wind statistics show offshore W/WNW/NW/NNW flow 52-55% of the time in the core winter months. That means the famous left-hander is groomed clean more often than not, and the combination of solid 4-6ft (1.2-1.8m) SSW/SW groundswell and offshore winds makes this the prime window.
