When the pros roll in for contests, the lineup swells accordingly—but a midweek morning session often rewards you with plenty of space and uncrowded peaks. The magic here fires best on a solid NorthWest swell, though a NorthEast pulse can also get things going. Wave heights range from playful 3-foot (1-meter) peelers to serious, 15-foot (5-meter) bombs that detonate into hollow, demanding barrels. The lefts are the main draw—fast, raw, and often nasty as they unload over fine sand from the outer bank. Rights exist but play a supporting role. When the tide drops to low or mid, the shape sharpens and the sandbar lines up for memorable rides. This is advanced territory. The key to Cacimba do Padre lies in the overlap of long-period north-quadrant swell and offshore southerly flow. From January through April, the Northern Hemisphere winter storm track is still active enough to push N/NNW/NNE groundswell down into the equatorial Atlantic, while the South Atlantic high begins to weaken, the easterly trades ease, and the ITCZ shifts south. February and March stand out as the sweet spot: average periods hover near 11.5s, ideal wind frequency climbs to 37-47 percent, and the spectrum still contains useful N/NNE/NW/NNW energy. The result is clean, hollow, sometimes firing Cacimba conditions on the best days.
