Best Surf Season (May - August)
The South Atlantic really wakes up during late autumn and winter, and Capao da Canoa sits right in the firing line. A succession of cold fronts and extratropical cyclones rolling out of Argentina and Uruguay aim long-period swell at this east-southeast-facing beach from the S, SSE, SE and E directions. May and June stand out as the crown jewels: average wave heights hover around 5-6ft (1.5-1.8m), periods stretch toward 10s, and the offshore W/NW wind quadrant is at its most frequent. That combination produces the most consistent, clean and powerful surf of the year, despite the colder water.
