Best Surf Season (April - July)

The South Atlantic starts to shift during autumn, and Morro dos Conventos responds with the best combination of size, period and wind. Average swell heights build to 5ft (1.5m), periods reach 9.4-10.0s, and the ideal W/NW offshore wind window opens up to 29-34% of the time. The main swell directions are S/SSE/SE - the directions that actually wrap into this SE-facing beach - driven by frontal systems sweeping up the South American coast. July is the last full month of this sweet spot, with slightly shorter average period but similar power.

Fair Surf Season (August - October)

Late winter and early spring bring the biggest swells of the year, especially September, when the average height peaks near 5-6ft (1.7m). However, the NE tradewind flow strengthens dramatically through these months, and ideal W/NW offshore time drops to 14-21%. This is the classic 'size on tap, wind on top' period: powerful S/SE groundswell arrives frequently, but the clean windows can be short and are often tied to the post-frontal W/NW clears. When it all lines up, it's heavy and firing.

Low Surf Season (November - March)

Summer and its shoulder months see Morro dos Conventos fall into a predominantly easterly windswell regime. Average periods slip to 8.4-8.9s, heights drop to 4-5ft (1.3-1.5m), and the wave rose is dominated by E/ESE/SE windswell. The NE/ENE trade winds rule the wind rose, leaving only 14-20% of the time with ideal offshore flow. Occasional summer cold fronts and coastal lows still produce fun, punchy conditions, but consistency and power are at their annual low. If you're planning a trip, aim for May or June; if you're local, this is the time to ride a fish.
