Best Surf Season (May - July)

Tramandao hits its stride during the austral winter. As the South Atlantic subtropical high loosens its grip and cold fronts from the southwest march across the region, the wind shifts into the west and northwest quadrants. From May through July, offshore flow blows 37-41% of the time, providing the cleanest surfaces of the year. At the same time, average wave periods reach 9.3-9.7s and swell heights sit at a solid 1.7-1.8m (5.6-5.9ft). The combination of long-period ground swell and offshore west winds creates the most frequent and best-quality surf at this ESE-facing beach.

Fair Surf Season (April & August)

These shoulder months act as a bridge between the trade wind summer and the westerly winter. April shows the first major boost in offshore wind (28% ideal) and a jump to 9.1s periods, while August still holds winter swell size and period but sees the trades re-strengthening, dropping ideal wind to 30%. Both months can produce memorable sessions, especially when a cold front aligns with an ENE to SE swell window.

Low Surf Season (September - March)

From late spring through summer, the subtropical high becomes the dominant player, driving persistent ENE/NE trade winds directly onshore for this coast. Ideal wind percentages sink to 17-23%, while the same ENE-SE wind directions that generate the most swell also chop it up. September and October actually see the biggest average swells of the year (1.9-2.0m / 6.2-6.6ft), but they often arrive with onshore wind. If a rare frontal passage pushes the wind offshore, these months can still deliver - but consistency is low.
