November: Full Winter Mode

November is a full-on winter month again. Average swell height jumps to 7.9ft (2.4m), and the period remains robust at 11.7s as the North Pacific storm track intensifies. W (20.3%), WSW (18.3%), SW (9.0%) and WNW (3.7%) continue to dominate the swell direction spectrum, but the mix is slightly more SW-heavy than December, giving Long Beach a nice variety of angles. Wind data show the return of strong offshore potential: E (12.2%), ESE (14.7%), ENE (5.4%) and NE (2.4%) together account for 34.7% of the wind rose, and ideal conditions run 33% of the time. Onshore WNW flow is still present at 12.4%, so it is a month of mix-and-match weather. Air temps drop to 7.2°C, water temps to 9.6°C, and precipitation jumps to 10.70mm/day - classic stormy Pacific Northwest autumn. When the high pressure behind a cold front aligns an E/ESE offshore with a long-period W/WSW swell, Long Beach turns on and delivers some of the best waves of the season.
