El Muro seasonal overview

Best Surf Season (May - August)

The South Pacific storm track jolts to life during the austral autumn and winter, and El Muro feels the pulse almost immediately. Average swell heights climb to a dependable 6ft (1.8m) with periods holding from 12.8 to 13.2 seconds, while the majority of energy rolls in from the optimal SW and WSW quadrants. The wind factor is still the catch-true offshore/easterly flow only reaches 5-6 percent-but that small window is enough to turn a lumpy winter beach into a lined-up, long-period wall for a few hours at dawn.

Fair Surf Season (March - April & September - October)

These are the transition months. March and April combine long-period groundswell and a slowly improving offshore-wind percentage, with periods peaking at 13.6 seconds in March. September and October are heavier and more winterlike, but ideal winds shrink back to 1-2%, leaving many swells to battle onshore texture. Fair conditions, in other words, are inconsistent: macro energy is often excellent, micro wind is not.

Low Surf Season (November - February)

The South Pacific high re-establishes itself during the southern summer, weakening the storm conveyor. Average swell heights drop to around 5ft (1.6m) and the offshore wind window essentially vanishes for weeks at a time. SSW and SW wind flow becomes the default daily grind, leaving El Muro fat, bumpy and hard to read. The saving grace is the long period-13 seconds is still present-so the rare dawn glass-off can occasionally produce surprisingly good, hollow peaks.
