Best Surf Season (March - May)

The strongest trade-off between solid swell and offshore wind arrives in austral autumn. Punta Quidico averages 2.0-2.1m (6.5-7ft) of long-period groundswell at 12.4-12.6s, while the South Pacific High still exerts enough influence to keep S/SSW offshore winds in play 43-58% of the time. March is the standout, but April's longer periods and May's extra size keep the window alive.

Fair Surf Season (September - February)

Spring and early summer are more user friendly, with ideal winds improving to 47-54% from September through February. Average swells measure 1.9-2.0m (6.2-6.5ft) and periods remain above 11.5s, so Punta Quidico is never completely flat. The catch is that the swell direction is locked into SW/WSW during these months, and the cleaner the wind, the smaller the swell tends to be.

Low Surf Season (June - August)

The midwinter months see the biggest swells of the year - 2.2m (7.2ft) on average - but they are the hardest to ride well. Ideal wind drops to only 38-41 percent at Punta Quidico, as storm fronts dragging through the southeast Pacific send frequent onshore NNW and NW winds. If you can pick out a post-frontal window with southwest flow, winter can be excellent; otherwise expect raw, lumpy, powerful surf.
