Kapu Beach Lighthouse presents a classic blend of novelty and consistency, anchored by a short, shallow right that peels off the lighthouse itself—a playful little gem that rewards good timing. Beyond this focal point, the shoreline unfurls for miles as a dynamic beachbreak, offering average but rideable waves in both directions. For those willing to scout a bit south toward Kerala, conditions often improve noticeably, with increased consistency and size as the seabed shifts. The primary swell window is west, though the setup also handles southwest and northwest pulses well, with an ideal size around 3 feet. Wave faces break over a mix of boulders and sand, delivering right-handers best suited for intermediate surfers. Optimal conditions align with low to mid tide and a north-east wind that grooms the surface. While the surf here can be decent, it’s prone to mediocrity—so checking the latest forecasts before paddling out is key to catching Kapu at its best.

Best Surf Season (October - March)

The northeast monsoon is the key player at Kapu Beach, and it turns the offshore wind dial in the surfer's favor. From October through March, the prevailing wind shifts into the east-northeast quadrant, blowing straight off the land and grooming this west-southwest facing stretch of Indian coastline. November and December are the statistical standouts, with ideal wind 56 and 53 percent of the time respectively, while average swell heights hover around 2-3ft (0.7-0.9m) with periods in the 9-11 second range. The surf is not huge, but it is clean, rippable and remarkably consistent. January and February carry that quality forward, with slightly less wind but a touch more W/NW swell. October and March are the transition bookends that can still produce surprisingly good long-period lines. Water temps stay in the 28-29°C range and precipitation is low, making for warm, tropical sessions.
