Dreamland seasonal overview
Best Surf Season (April - October)
Dreamland faces west on Bali's Bukit Peninsula, but the data show that its bread-and-butter swell comes from the SSW and SW quadrants, with the odd WSW pulse mixed in. Pure west-to-northwest swell is almost absent, and the real magic happens when Southern Ocean groundswell pushes long-period SSW/SW waves toward the island and the southeast trades blow offshore from the E/ESE/SE. This combination lines the bay up into down-the-line waves. From April through October, the monsoon has shifted, rainfall drops, and average swells build from 1.7m (5-6ft) to 2.2m (7-8ft) with periods of 13-14s. April, May, September and October offer the cleanest conditions; June through August deliver the heaviest, most powerful swell but often with stronger offshore trades that add texture.
Fair Surf Season (March and November)
March and November sit on the edges of the dry season and act as transition months. The southeast trades are still fighting the westerly monsoon winds, so conditions often flip-flop between glassy offshore mornings and bumpy onshore afternoons. Average swell drops to around 1.6m (5ft) with 13s periods, but the SSW/SW groundswell is still present. For the patient surfer, these months can serve up excellent sessions on the right reef and sand alignments, especially in the early morning before the sea breeze or rain.
Low Surf Season (December - February)
The northwest monsoon takes over from December through February, delivering persistent W and WNW winds straight onshore at Dreamland. Average swell remains surprisingly healthy at 1.6-1.7m (5-6ft) with 12-13s periods, but the wave quality drops dramatically. With ideal winds only 16-24% of the time, and rainfall often exceeding 8-9 mm/day, you trade clean power for lumpy, wind-blown walls. Occasionally a dawn E/SE offshore window or a break in the monsoon can reveal the area's true potential, but statistically this is the least consistent, lowest quality stretch of the year.
