Fishermans Point

Nestled just a stone’s throw from town, Fishermans Point offers a distinctly local vibe where the lineup mingles with a row of canoes tied to the shore—a nod to the fishermen who share this stretch of coast. The atmosphere is laid-back, making it just as easy to unwind on the sand as it is to paddle out. Best suited for intermediate and above surfers, this spot comes alive when the swell finally decides to show up. Swell patterns from the south and west light up the point, holding sizes from a modest 0.6 meters up to a solid 2.4 meters. The wave breaks over a mix of boulders and sand, peeling both left and right with rides that can stretch an impressive 500 meters—ideal for trimming the longboard or dialing in your rail game. When conditions align, especially with a southeast breeze, expect the occasional hollow section that tubes up clean and fast. Tidal windows are generous: low, mid, or high tide all offer something rideable, so you rarely show up to a flat bank. For the best session, aim for a southeast wind to groom the face, and keep an eye on the swell direction to maximize the long, wrap-around walls. While Fishermans Point can be fickle, when it's on, it delivers quality, memorable waves. Just remember to share the lineup with the locals and the fishermen—they've been here long before you paddled out.

Best Surf Season (May - June & October - November)

Fishermans Point is a west-north-west facing Liberian beach, which means the dominant S/SSW groundswell of the tropical South Atlantic has to work its way around the coastline to reach the break. True W/WNW/WSW swell is almost absent from the seasonal statistics, so nearly all of the surf comes from the south and south-southwest. The best windows of the year cluster around May - June and October - November, when the seasonal migration of the ITCZ and the strengthening South Atlantic High allow ESE/SE trade winds to line up with solid, long-period S/SSW groundswell. You can expect punchy 3-5ft (0.9-1.5m) surf on the better days, with occasional bigger sets in June and clean, rippable waves in November.
