Ninjas/Piddlies seasonal overview
Best Surf Season (March - April & October - November)
The surf window at Ninjas/Piddlies is controlled by the battle between the northeast and southwest monsoons. The true sweet spots are the intermonsoon transition months, when offshore west/northwest wind clockwork (WSW-W-WNW-NW) begins to line up with swell energy arriving out of the eastern quadrant (ENE-E-ESE-SE). March and November offer the most balanced combination of usable east-angle swell and clean wind, while April and October add a higher percentage of ideal offshore breeze, albeit with the swell shifting toward the southeast. During these months, periods sit in the 7-8s range and average heights hover around 0.7-1.0m (2-3ft), making for punchy, rideable reef waves on the better days.
Fair Surf Season (May - September)
The southwest monsoon takes hold from late spring through early autumn. Westerly winds dominate, which is offshore for this east-facing spot, and the wind is ideal up to 53-57% of the time in July-August. However, the dominant swell direction flips to from the south and southwest - not the open ENE/ESE window that makes Ninjas/Piddlies fire. As a result, the break runs inconsistent, shadowed and often smaller than the regional average, though occasional SSE/SE wrap-around energy can salvage clean sessions.
Low Surf Season (December - February)
The northeast monsoon is the low point for wave quality at this exposed-to-the-east reef. While the direction statistics actually show the highest percentage of ENE/E swell (up to 85%), the wind blows from the same onshore quadrant - ENE/E/ESE - with only 7-22% ideal wind in practice. Short periods (6.7-6.9s) add chop and mess. The result is plenty of lines but blown-out, lumpy conditions; you'll need to pick off the rare W/NW land-breeze window to find anything clean.
