Pasta Point

Pasta Point is a pristine, invitation-only left reef break reserved exclusively for guests of the Chaaya Dhonveli Resort. With a tight cap of 30 surfers in the water at any time, this spot delivers a rare sense of solitude and consistency. The wave unfolds over a bed of dead coral, offering a quick, punchy ride—an edgy, lip-bashing wall that demands sharp reflexes and commitment. Expect waves in the 2-to-6-foot range (0.6 to 2 meters), firing best on a south swell, with southeast and south directions also serving up quality. Wind windows are generous, handling northeast through southeast breezes. Tide-wise, the break performs across low, mid, and high stages—though the shifting water level can alter the wave’s pitch and speed, rewarding those who adapt. This is a powerful reef break built for intermediate surfers seeking a challenge, where the absence of crowds means more waves for you, but the rail-to-rail intensity is not for the faint of heart.

Best Surf Season (May - September)

The southwest monsoon fires up the Indian Ocean and Pasta Point sees its most consistent period of quality, rideable swell. As the Asian landmass heats up and pressure gradients tighten across the equatorial Indian Ocean, swell trains from the SW-W quadrant roll into the Maldives. These months deliver the highest percentage of optimal direction swell at Pasta Point; the S, SSW, SW and WSW combinations account for 63-75% of all wave energy. Average wave heights sit in the 3-4ft (0.9-1.2m) range with periods around 7.5-8.9s. The monsoon clearly brings plenty of wind, but the frequent WNW and NW flow in July, August and September provides enough clean windows to make this the heart of the season.
