Best Surf Season (November - March)

Bucerias hits its stride when autumn and winter storm tracks across the North Pacific start firing long-period groundswell toward the Mexican Riviera. During these months, the dominant wind flow comes from the N through ENE quadrant, blowing offshore across the southwest-facing beach and grooming the waves far more often than not. The average wave height hovers around 3ft (1m), but the 13-14s periods give that modest height real power and push, and there are always days in the 3-5ft (1-1.5m) range. November and December are especially reliable, with ideal wind conditions 84 and 87 percent of the time, respectively.

Fair Surf Season (April - May and October)

The shoulder months are all about transition. April and May see the swell direction rotate toward the SSW/SW sweet spot, which is excellent for lineup alignment, but the offshore pressure gradient relaxes. Ideal winds drop to 54-64 percent and afternoon sea breezes start to eat into what are often superb long-period waves. October is the mirror image: the wet season is pulling back, the hurricane swell window is still open, and a clean SW/WSW swell can still be on tap while winter-style winds begin to strengthen.

Low Surf Season (June - September)

This is not a flat season, but it is the lowest consistency season. The monsoon trough and warm tropical airmass settle over the region, bringing heavy rainfall and much higher humidity. The direction of the swells remains favorable, mostly SSW/SW, but southerly and southwesterly winds accompany the same tropical disturbances that generate the waves. That means shorter, fickler clean windows, more afternoon wind, and occasional rain-soaked sessions. The upside is the Eastern Pacific hurricane season, which can throw serious energy into Bucerias from late July through September if a storm tracks just right - just be ready for a trade-off in wind and rain.
