April: Big SSW Power and Fickle Midday Wind

April is the most intriguing month on the calendar at Chacahua because the swell is firing but the wind is the limiting factor. Average height climbs to 4.9ft (1.5m) and the average period reaches 14.0s - the first true long-period pulse of the year. The directional focus is razor sharp: SSW accounts for a huge 64.5% of all wave energy, with SW at 17% and S at 11.3%. SSW alone delivers 39.1% in the 3-5ft (1-1.5m) class and 22.9% in the 5-6.5ft (1.5-2m) range, with 1.7% in the 6.5-8ft (2-2.5m) range; SW and S add significant 5-6.5ft (1.5-2m) sets as well. However, ideal offshore wind sits at only 31%, with WNW/W/WSW flow becoming strong and frequent; this is often the month with the most onshore/cross-shore influence.
