Best Surf Season (June - October)

Puerto Madero is a southwest-facing beach, so the year really comes alive when the Southern Hemisphere storm track cranks up and sends persistent S/SSW/SW groundswell across the equatorial Pacific. From June through October, the average wave size sits in the 4.5-4.9ft (1.4-1.5m) range with periods in the 13-14s zone, and the overwhelming majority of the swell arrives from the optimal SSW/SW window. This is also the peak of East Pacific tropical cyclone season, which can throw XL, occasionally heavy waves into the coast. Offshore N/NNE/NE/ENE flow is present 51-56% of the time, and despite the arrival of the rainy season, the best windows are clean, glassy dawn patrols before ESE/SE cross-breezes build.

Fair Surf Season (November - January)

The transition from autumn to winter trades some wave size and directional focus for the cleanest surface conditions of the year. November, December, and January see ideal offshore wind percentages of 53-61%, but average swell heights ease to 3.5-4.3ft (1.1-1.3m), and the directional spectrum becomes more mixed with WSW, W and WNW energy. SSW and SW still deliver rideable groundswell, especially in November, while December and January turn into classic longboard fare. The weather is drier, the air is warm, and the ocean remains around 28-29°C, making these months a comfortable, low-stress surfing window.

Low Surf Season (February - March)

There is no true flat season at Puerto Madero, but February and March are the least consistent stretch of the year. Swell still arrives from the S/SSW/SW/WSW side - over 80% of the spectrum in February and over 90% in March - but average heights are modest, offshore wind reliability dips to 43-48%, and the WSW/SW onshore component is more frequent, which can put a crumble on the waves. The period lengthens through March as the South Pacific begins to reawaken, and the first solid groundswell pulses of the year start to appear by late in the month. It remains a 3-5ft (0.9-1.5m) surf, just with less structure and more patience required. ENSO cycles can shift this calendar, but climatologically this is the quietest window.
