Best Surf Season (February - April)

Punta Chipehua is defined by balance. The beach pokes into the ENE quadrant, so the most direct, well-ordered surf arrives when north-eastern hemisphere groundswell fills in from the NE/ENE window and a SW/W offshore wind polishes each face. February through April is the sweet spot: the average wave period climbs from 11.3s to 13.7s, the ideal-wind window jumps from 28% in February to 46% in April, and the wave rose still retains a healthy slice of NNE/NE energy mixed with the building S/SSW groundswell. Combined with warm 26-29°C water and very little rain, this is the window to plan around.

Fair Surf Season (May - June)

May and June are the 'southern hemi' months. Distant South Pacific storms drive 13.8-14.1s swell into the region and offshore wind percentages are at their annual peak (up to 50% in May). However, the dominant S/SSW direction sits outside the spot's optimal NNE/ESE swell window, so a significant part of that energy is reduced by refraction or shadowing. When the angle lines up and the sea breeze stays light, it can be glassy and fun; when it does not, it tends to run smaller and grovelly.

Low Surf Season (July - September)

Summer and early fall are the least consistent months. The southern long-period swell is still present, but the ideal-wind percentage plummets to 18-25% and the wind rose turns increasingly NNE/NE, which is bad for an ENE-facing point. Warm 30°C water, tropical showers and the possibility of eastern Pacific tropical storms firing short-period, lumpy swell complete the picture. Tune it out and wait for October's return of NE groundswell.
