March: Solid Spring Swell But the Onshore Trade Wind Bites

March holds the average swell height at 1.1m (3.5ft) and the average period at 13.5s. The swell window shifts slightly: W is 44.8%, WSW is 26.7%, and WNW is still 21.2%, with SW at 6.5% and NW at 0.7%. The percentage of pure W/WNW/NW/NNW energy drops to about two-thirds, and the increasing WSW/SW component means more shadowed, less focused swell at San Pancho. Still, the 1-1.5m (3-5ft) class makes up the bulk of the surf, and the long period ensures decent shape when the wind cooperates. Unfortunately, ideal offshore wind is at its lowest of the year, just 2%, as NNW (48.2%) and NW (25.3%) dominate the wind rose, with WNW adding another 11.0%. This is a month of mushy, wind-affected surf more often than not. Air temperatures sit at 23.6°C, water at 24.5°C, and with only 0.29 mm/day of rain, the weather is dry and warm - you just need to pick your spot carefully inside the bay when the trades crank.
