Best Surf Season (November - March)

When the North Pacific storm track gears up in late autumn, San Pedrito's southwest-facing beach sits right in the path of long-period groundswell. The data show an average surf height of 4-5ft (1.2-1.5m) with periods locked into the 13.5-13.9s range from November through March. Equally important, the wind statistics turn strongly in your favor: 58-70 percent of the time the breeze is from the offshore/cross-shore northern quadrant, keeping the surface clean. December and January are the statistical peak for clean, powerful conditions, while March adds a growing WSW/SW component that lines up even better with the beach.

Fair Surf Season (April - May and October)

These are the transition windows. April and May see the swell direction swing around to the ideal SSW/SW/WSW range as Southern Hemisphere storms begin sending energy north, but offshore wind reliability drops from winter's 60-70 percent into the mid-50s. October is the reverse transition: early North Pacific groundswell mixes with lingering southern energy, while the wind starts to recover. You will still score excellent sessions, but it takes a little more patience and a disciplined dawn patrol.

Low Surf Season (June - September)

Summer is not flat by any means-the long-period Southern Hemisphere swell machine is working and the direction at San Pedrito is often ideal-but overall quality drops as the North Pacific high weakens and afternoon thermal/onshore winds become more frequent. Ideal wind percentages fall to 45-48 percent, and tropical moisture or hurricane energy can add lump, humidity and rain. The average height still runs 4-5ft (1.2-1.5m), so the lineup delivers, but the window for truly glassy, well-ordered surf is shorter. Chase the morning offshore breezes and let the Southern Ocean fill the gap.
