Agadir sprawls along Morocco’s sun-drenched coast, a sprawling bay where the Atlantic pulses against a sandy seabed. This is a spot built for soaking up the sun and learning the rhythm of the ocean, with a relaxed, easygoing energy that makes it as much about the vibe as the ride. The surf here is a mixed bag—capable of delivering fun, forgiving waves but rarely offering anything that will set your world on fire. Swell filters in from the Southwest and North, wrapping into the bay and breaking over a sandy bottom. The wave size is modest, working even in 1-foot (0.3m) groundswell, and the breaks offer both lefts and rights depending on the sandbar’s shifting moods. Tides are generous: low, mid, and high can all produce rideable waves, though an east wind often cleans things up and makes the conditions more manageable. Agadir isn’t the destination for experienced surfers chasing hollow barrels or powerful walls. Instead, it shines as a gentle playground for beginners honing their pop-ups and reading the ocean. The variety in wave directions and the forgiving sand bottom provide a safe, consistent environment to build confidence. Still, conditions here can change quickly—so always give the beach a good look before paddling out.

Best Surf Season (October - March)

From October through March, Agadir sits directly in the firing line of the North Atlantic storm machine. Average swell heights run between 1.8m and 2.2m (6-7ft) with average periods of 11.6-13.3s, delivering powerful, long-period groundswell to this west-south-west-facing stretch of Moroccan coast. The wind also comes into its prime: ideal offshore flow from the NE through ESE quadrant is present 47-61% of the time, especially as high pressure builds over southern Europe and the Sahara. This is the heart of the Moroccan surf season. When the NAO index slips negative and the mid-Atlantic storm track sags south toward Iberia and Africa, the consistency and quality at Agadir can be world-class.
