Anchor Point seasonal overview
Best Surf Season (October - March)
The North Atlantic storm track is the engine that drives Anchor Point, and from October through March it runs at full power. Average swell heights sit between 2.0 and 2.2m (6.5-7ft) and average periods climb into the 11.6-13.3s range - exactly the kind of powerful, long-period groundswell this southwest-facing point needs. Ideal offshore flow from the NNE/NE/ENE/E quadrant is present 55-64% of the time during this window, especially in November, December and January. The statistical swell roses lean heavily on NNW/NW energy, but long-period northwest groundswell still wraps into the bay with serious consequence, and whenever a true W/SW component enters the mix the quality jumps to another level. Negative phases of the NAO often nudge Atlantic lows closer to Morocco, increasing the odds of steeper, more southerly angled swell and cleaner sessions.
Fair Surf Season (April, May and September)
These are the transition months of the Moroccan year: plenty of rideable surf but less power and consistency. Average swell heights ease to 1.5-2.0m (5-6.5ft) while periods drop into the 9-11s range. The ideal wind percentage falls to 43-54%, and the wind roses begin to show the warm-season trade-wind pattern from the NNW/NW. Mornings are frequently clean and offshore before the afternoon sea breeze kicks up. Within this group, April and September are the standouts; May can get soft unless a late-season low sends a longer-period pulse.
Low Surf Season (June - August)
Summer is the quietest chapter at Anchor Point. Average swell height drops to 1.6m (5ft) and the period falls to 7.8-8.4s, with 74-94% of all wave energy arriving from the NNW - a poor angle for this exposure and usually just short-period, wind-generated swell. The Azores High dominates, rainfall drops to near zero (0.04-0.14 mm/day), and water temperatures rise to about 18°C. Even though the offshore wind percentage remains respectable, the ocean lacks the power and period needed to make the point fire. This is the season of flat spells, longboards and planning the autumn return.
