Banana Beach seasonal overview

Best Surf Season (October - March)

Banana Beach switches on when the North Atlantic storm track pushes south toward Morocco. From late October through March, low pressure systems firing across the Atlantic send consistent groundswell into the region, with average wave heights sitting between 1.8-2.2m (6-7ft) and periods stretching from 11.6s up to 13.3s. That is powerful, long-period surf and it is exactly what a west-southwest facing beach needs to show its full potential. The offshore quadrant, from NNE through E, is also at its most reliable during this stretch, especially in November, December and January when favorable winds blow 60-62% of the time. If the NAO turns negative, the storm track dives even closer to the Moroccan coast and the swell quality jumps another level.

Fair Surf Season (April - May, September)

The shoulder months are more of a gamble. April and May still hold average heights of 1.8-2.0m (6-7ft), but the average period drops into the 9-11s range, so the surf lacks the heavy, organized push of winter. September is technically the smallest month of the year at 1.5m (5ft), yet the period begins to stretch back past 10s and the first real autumn groundswell is often just around the corner. Fair season waves are fun, rippable and sometimes excellent, but you have to choose your windows carefully as wind quality becomes less consistent.

Low Surf Season (June - August)

Summer is the quiet season at Banana Beach. The Azores High builds northward and the Atlantic storm track retreats, leaving the spot under a constant, almost one-directional NNW windswell. Average heights drop to around 1.6m (5ft) and periods fall to 7.8-8.4s, which is short-period, groveling conditions rather than serious groundswell. July is the most extreme, with over 90% of the wave energy arriving from the NNW. The warm air and summer vibes keep the beach alive, but if you are looking for power, you will be waiting until the first autumn lows start to spin up in September.
