Kraakevika is a winter-bred set-up. As the North Atlantic storm track re-engages through autumn, the average wave height climbs from 3ft (0.9m) in May to 5ft (1.6m) in December, while average wave periods lengthen from 7s to 11.5s. The peak months are December through February, when extratropical lows marching across the Norwegian Sea push consistent W and WSW swells straight into the WNW-facing beach, and the 10-14s period band brings real power. Windy, wet systems are part of the deal, but when a ridge of high pressure slips over Scandinavia, light offshore E/SE winds groom these waves into clean, hollow lines. Positive phases of the NAO typically enhance these westerly-driven windows, making Kraakevika a proper cold-water destination in the dark months.
