The same parking area serves both spots, and it’s only a 10-minute drive from Bore Strand Camping, making it a convenient option for those looking to avoid long walks or crowded lineups. The beach here rarely feels busy, giving you room to relax between sets and a more laid-back vibe overall. Wave-wise, Refsnes delivers shifting peaks typical of the area, with conditions often mirroring those at Bore. The optimal swell direction is west, though south-west and north-west swells can also produce rideable waves. It starts to work with swell heights around 2 feet (0.6 meters), offering both left and right beach breaks depending on which sandbar settles in. For the best shape, aim for low to mid or high tide when the wind is out of the northeast. This spot really shines for beginners, especially in late summer when a good sandbar forms and turns the peak into a forgiving, user-friendly wave. Getting here is straightforward: park at Point Perfect (Vik Airfield) or the midpoint of the beach. The lack of crowd pressure, combined with the mellow atmosphere, makes Refsnes an ideal place to build confidence and refine your skills without the stress of a packed lineup.

Refsnes is a cold-water, west-southwest-facing Norwegian set-up that comes alive when the North Atlantic turns into a storm factory. As the Icelandic Low deepens and the NAO often swings positive, a conveyor belt of extratropical cyclones feeds the Norwegian coast with consistent 7-8ft (2.1-2.4m) swells and average periods in the 8.5-9.0s range. The ideal swell window - SSW, SW, WSW, W - remains well represented, which is exactly what this exposure needs. Winter is not just about raw size, though. The best surf occurs when a cold front passes, the wind swings into the NE-E offshore quadrant and the water gets glassy. That only happens 17-19 percent of the time, so patience is part of the game.
