Best Surf Season (December - March)

The core of the year at Playa Bluff comes when the North Atlantic subtropical high tightens its grip on the Caribbean. Between December and March, the average wave height stays in the 1.2-1.4m (4-5ft) range, the period holds near a punchy 8s, and this NE-facing stretch of sand is fed by a near-constant stream of NE and NNE trade swell. Clean cross-shore NNW/NW winds dominate, and the dry season keeps rain largely out of the picture, producing the most consistent and surfable waves of the year.

Fair Surf Season (April - August & November)

From April through August the trade-wind engine remains active but the quality fades. Average heights drop to 0.9-1.2m (3-4ft), periods shorten slightly, and the rainy season brings more cloud and tropical downpours. June and July are the pick of the summer months, as the NE swell percentage and wave period increase. November also falls into this fair category, when the swell begins to rebuild and the ideal-wind percentage climbs back to 50%, setting the stage for winter.

Low Surf Season (September - October)

September and October are the traditional flat spell. The North Atlantic high weakens, trade winds become less organised, and the average swell height bottoms out around 0.7m (2ft). Wave periods fade into the 7s, and even the dominant NE direction cannot generate meaningful size. These are the months to trade your shortboard for a longboard, or to wait for the rare tropical wave or early-season cold front to stir the Caribbean back to life.
