Cerro Azul locks into the South Pacific storm track during the austral autumn and winter, and the result is a long, sustained run of powerful groundswell. From April through September, average surf heights climb to 6-7ft (1.9-2.1m), with a large percentage of waves in the 5-8ft (1.5-2.5m) range. Periods run 12.8-13.7s, putting the swell squarely in the powerful long-period class. The wind regime is just as generous: S, SSW and SW winds blow consistently offshore for this NNW-facing beach, and ideal conditions clock in at 93-98% during these months. This is the heart of the year on the Peruvian coast - consistent, heavy and beautifully groomed.
