The South Atlantic storm track shifts northward toward the Cape as Southern Hemisphere winter arrives, and Yzerfontein's southwest-facing coastline starts to light up. Long-period groundswell from the SSW, SW and WSW becomes the dominant signal, with average heights climbing to 8-9ft (2.4-2.7m) and periods sitting comfortably in the powerful 12.4-12.6s window. The percentage of ideal wind days jumps to 29-40 percent, the highest of the year. This is the strongest combination on the calendar: solid southwest groundswell arriving on a coast that finally sees a much higher frequency of offshore N/NE breezes between cold fronts. Expect powerful, hollow lines and the cleanest winter sessions of the year.
