Today's Surf Conditions at Playa Honda
Best Surf Season & Climatology
Best Surf Season (October - March)
Playa Honda's best waves arrive when the North Atlantic starts to churn in autumn and stays active through early spring. During this window, average swell heights hold in the 5-6ft (1.5-1.8m) range with periods of 11-13s, a solid upgrade from the summer months. October stands out with the highest amount of clean offshore wind at 34%, while November through February deliver the most raw power. The catch is that the waverose at Playa Honda is heavily weighted toward NNW, NNE and NW swell, which is partially shadowed by the island on a south-facing beach. The magic comes when slow-moving lows track farther south and push S/SSE/SW groundswell into the island - that is when the beach truly lights up. A negative NAO pattern is often the key, as it pulls Atlantic storm tracks south and increases the odds of those desirable southerly quadrant swells.
