Best Surf Season (October - March)

Verdicio sits exposed to the gritty, open North Atlantic on the Asturian coast, and its NNW-facing sand feels the full force of the winter swell machine. From October through March the average wave height sits in the 1.5-1.7m (5-5.6ft) range and the average period rarely drops below 11.9s. This is the window for proper groundswell: low-pressure systems rolling across the Atlantic aim N, WNW and NW fetches straight at the beach. Those same systems often drag onshore N/NW winds behind them, so the best sessions happen when the post-frontal pressure gradient flips to a southerly or southwesterly flow, grooming the big lines and putting Verdicio's powerful, organized peaks on offer. Depending on the NAO phase, the storm track either rides northern latitudes or dips south toward Iberia; both can send long-period NW swell to Verdicio.
