Best Surf Season (June - September)

The southwest monsoon activates the Philippines during these months, sending consistent swell from the SW and WSW directly into Darigayos' west-northwest exposure. This is when the spot truly comes alive. While wave heights average a fun 1.0-1.1m and periods hover around 7s, the combination of optimal swell direction and predominantly offshore winds from the south and southeast (S, SSE) creates punchy, rippable surf. The wind is ideal roughly 30-34% of the time, and with the tropics firing, you can catch clean, lined-up waves. It's not the heaviest, but it's the most consistent and high-quality window for this tucked-away break.

Fair Surf Season (May & October)

These are transitional months, offering a mix of the waning and waxing monsoon patterns. May sees the last pulses of NE swell mixing with building SW energy, while October starts to pick up the first significant NW groundswell. Conditions are more hit-or-miss: you might score a sunny day with light offshore breezes and a solid waist-to-chest high swell, or you might deal with onshore winds and mixed-up seas. Average wave heights and periods are moderate, and the percentage of ideal wind dips to around 19-38% depending on the month. Keep an eye on the charts—these months can surprise you with a gem of a session.

Low Surf Season (November - April)

The northeast monsoon dominates this period, with prevailing swell from the N and NNE. While these directions deliver the largest waves of the year (peak average of 1.6m at 8.2s in December) and relatively clean cross-shore winds, the swell angle is simply not optimal for Darigayos. The northwest-facing beach requires more west in the swell to wrap in properly. The result is often smaller, weaker surf than the numbers suggest, with a northerly bias that fails to groom the break. Wind quality is decent (31-41% ideal), but the swell alignment kills the potential. This is the season for patience and chasing the occasional westerly pulse.

May: Monsoon Transition in Full Swing

May marks a major shift. The northeast monsoon is fading, and the southwest monsoon is ramping up. Swell heights remain low at 0.6m and period 5.8s, but the direction distribution changes dramatically: SW (10%) and WSW (18%) now account for over a quarter of the swell, while N drops to 19%. This is great news for Darigayos! The waves start to wrap in from the optimal west quadrant. Winds become more southerly, with S (17%) and SSW (13%) dominating, offering offshore conditions. However, ideal wind is only 19%, meaning the wind is often too strong or from a poor angle. Expect small, inconsistent surf with occasional clean windows for the log or a groveler.
