G-Land - surf spot statistics

G-Land is a world-class left-hand reef break with incredibly consistent swell year-round, but the best conditions for surfers are typically from April through October. During these months, the spot benefits from a near-constant ground swell (97-100% frequency), minimal wind swell interference, and manageable wind conditions. The peak swell season runs from May to September, with the largest waves averaging 2.0-2.3 meters, offering powerful, clean walls ideal for advanced surfers. April and October are excellent transitional months with strong consistency, slightly smaller waves (1.7-2.0m), and notably better wind conditions, with favorable offshore winds occurring 57-61% of the time. The winter months (November-March) still see solid swell, but onshore winds dominate (60-84% bad wind conditions), making sessions less reliable. March and November can still produce good sessions when winds cooperate, though swell size drops slightly to around 1.7m. For the most epic, well-shaped barrels with minimal wind interference, the prime window is generally June through August, when the swell peaks in size and consistency—though crowds can be heavier. If you prioritize cleaner conditions with slightly smaller but still powerful waves, April-May and September-October are the sweet spots.

The swell is predominantly from the SSW (48.3% of waves between 1.5-2.5m), SW (31.3% in the same range), and S directions, delivering consistent, head-high to overhead surf. The longer period enhances wave quality, making it ideal for experienced surfers. Wind conditions are favorable 53% of the time, with the most common issue being E to ESE winds (10-30kph in 52.4% of cases), which can create cross-onshore effects. However, light winds from the SSW to SW (under 20kph) occur 25.5% of the time, providing cleaner conditions. Overall, May is a reliable month for good waves, though wind variations require timing sessions around lighter offshore or glassy periods.
