Average swell heights of 1.5m to 2.0m with periods averaging 10-12 seconds lay the foundation for pumping waves peeling down the point. The percentage of favorable offshore winds (E through SSE) ranges from 19% to 24%, meaning every few days a window of clean conditions aligns with solid swell. When the stars align, expect firing, long-period waves in the 1.5-2.5m range—truly world-class.

Fair Surf Season (April & September)

The transition months of April and September offer a tamer but still rideable alternative. The average swell height dips to around 1.3m, and periods shorten to 9-10 seconds as the storm track weakens. However, the direction remains favorable with plenty of W through NW swell, and offshore wind frequency holds near 20-23%. Expect fun-sized waves in the 0.5-1.5m range, perfect for groveling or longer boards. These months can reward flexible surfers with uncrowded sessions and occasional bigger days when a late-season low pressures lingers.

Low Surf Season (May - August)

Summer brings a dramatic lull to Hoddevika's surf scene. The average swell height drops to under 1.0m, and periods shorten to below 8 seconds, producing weak, chopped-up conditions. Onshore winds from the W, WNW, and NW become more prevalent, with ideal offshore winds occurring only 14-18% of the time. The predominant swell becomes shorter-period windswell from the NNW, often unsurfable. While the occasional small bump may appear from distant storms, this is a period for exploring other activities or traveling to swell-richer coasts. The few surfable days are rare gems in the summer doldrums.

August: A Glimmer of Hope

August sees a slight uptick from July, with average swell height creeping up to 0.9m and period to 7.6s. Optimal swell directions remain common (51.1% from W-NNW), but heights still hover in the 0.5-1m range. Offshore wind frequency improves to 17%, and the wind distribution shows more SSE and S influence, which can provide side-offshore conditions. The beginning of the end of summer sometimes brings early-season low pressure systems, capable of producing the first legitimate groundswell of the autumn.
