Il Bunker seasonal overview

Best Surf Season (November - February)

The heart of winter delivers the most consistent swell to Il Bunker, with average heights climbing above 0.9m and the highest percentage of offshore wind from the north quadrants. The North Atlantic storm track fires up, sending frequent low-pressure systems across Europe that generate long-period SSW to SW swell trains. While average periods hover around 5s, the combination of moderate swell height and clean offshore winds up to 20% of the time means you can find punchy, rideable waves, especially when a fresh pulse coincides with a northerly Bora wind. This is when the spot really comes alive for the dedicated surfer.

Fair Surf Season (March - April & October)

Transition months offer a mixed bag. In March and April, the swell height drops to 0.7-0.8m and ideal wind percentages slip to 16-17%. The shift in atmospheric patterns leads to more variable conditions – you might get a decent SW groundswell followed by days of light onshore breezes. October sees a slight rebound in swell energy as autumn storms begin to form, but the wind alignment is less reliable. Overall, these months require patience and a keen eye on the forecast to score a clean session.

Low Surf Season (May - September)

Summer is the quietest period for Il Bunker. The Mediterranean high-pressure system dominates, suppressing storm activity and producing weak, short-period windswell from the south and southwest. Average swell heights drop to 0.5-0.6m with periods around 4s – too small for real surfing. Offshore wind opportunities are scarce (8-12% of the time), and the prevailing sea breezes often create choppy, messy conditions. Unless a rare summer thunderstorm or passing trough delivers a fleeting pulse, this is the time to rest the boards and explore other activities.
