Best Surf Season (October - March)

The North Atlantic roars to life during this six-month stretch, delivering the most consistent and powerful swell to Lagido's NNE-facing shores. Average wave heights range from 2.1m to 2.8m, with periods often exceeding 12 seconds – a result of frequent extratropical cyclones spinning up in the North Atlantic. The dominant swell directions from the NW and WNW wrap effectively into the exposed orientation, producing quality lines. Offshore winds from the S, SSW, and SW occur roughly 25% of the time, aligning nicely to groom the faces when the pressure gradient cooperates. These months represent the peak window for thick, long-period groundswell and firing conditions.

Fair Surf Season (April, May, September)

As the storm track begins to shift northward during spring and early autumn, swell energy backs off slightly. Average heights drop to the 1.7–2.1m range and periods shorten to 9.9–11.2s. The percentage of ideal offshore wind decreases to about 20%, and the prevailing wind regime becomes more dominated by northerly flows. While still rideable on many days, the consistency and power are noticeably weaker than the peak winter months. Occasional late-season lows can still produce fun, rippable conditions, but you're more likely to encounter smaller, punchy surf with a higher chance of onshore chop.

Low Surf Season (June, July, August)

Summer settles in with a pronounced lull in wave energy. Average swell heights hover around 1.5–1.6m and periods dip below 9 seconds, often lacking the period to wrap effectively into Lagido. The dominant swell direction is squarely from the NW and NNW – favorable for exposure, but the energy is weak. More critically, the wind pattern becomes a major hurdle: northerly and north-northwesterly winds (bad for the spot) blow 60–70% of the time, with ideal offshore winds from the S/SW dropping to a mere 10–16%. Surf is typically small, short-period, and blown out, with only the rare, fleeting window of clean conditions. Best suited for a log or a groveler when a southerly wind drift aligns with a small groundswell.

May: Lighter Swell, Wind Challenges

May continues the spring trend with average swell height dropping to 1.8m and period to 9.9s. Swell directions are overwhelmingly from the NNW (29.9%) and NW (28.4%), with a notable increase in NW (28.4%) – all favorable for Lagido, but the energy is down. The percentage of ideal wind remains at 20%, but the wind distribution is heavily skewed toward the north: N wind is 27.0% and NNW is 20.6%. This means the surf is often small, short-period, and choppy due to persistent onshore flow. The few days when a southerly wind does align, the waves can be fun-sized and rippable, but inconsistent. A good month for a groveler or a longboard session.
