La Gravière in France is a powerful beach break known for its heavy, hollow waves, best suited for experienced surfers. The most consistent and high-quality conditions occur from October through March, when the Atlantic swells are strong and frequent. During these months, ground swells dominate, with percentages ranging from 66% in October to 90% in January, delivering mean swell sizes between 1.5m and 2.1m. Swell consistency is highest in winter, particularly in January and December, when ground swell probabilities peak above 84% and wave heights average around 2.0m or more. Wind conditions are more variable but tend to be most favorable in October, November, February, and December, when good wind days occur around 39–41% of the time. Spring (April–June) and summer (July–September) see a decline in quality, with ground swells becoming less dominant and wind swells or weaker conditions taking over. Swell size drops below 1.5m after March, and adverse winds prevail, with bad wind probabilities exceeding 59% from April onward. September marks a transitional month with improving swell but still inconsistent winds. For powerful, clean waves, the ideal window is late autumn to early winter, particularly October–February, when solid swells meet relatively better wind odds. Summer is generally poor, with small, wind-affected waves. Advanced surfers should target the peak winter months for heavy barrels, though offshore winds are less reliable and require careful timing.
